Mogul Judges National Mock Trial Competition
As readers of our “Firm News” page may know, each year Attorney Steven Mogul judges the Maine High School Mock Trial Competition, most recently held last November. This year attorney Mogul was tapped to act as a judge in the American Association of Justice (AAJ), National Mock Trial Competition. As Steven explains, “this was a competition among law students from all over the country, so it was quite different from the high school competition I’m more accustom to judging.”In March, Steven presided over the regional semi-final round.
“I was incredibly impressed with the quality of the presentations. These students performed as well as many seasoned attorneys.” This was the first time Steven judged a civil case rather than a criminal case. According to Steven, “civil litigation is really more in my wheelhouse.” The case being judged involved a complicated tractor-trailer crash, “with evidence that could go either way.”
According to AAJ’s website, each year it hosts the competition, “showcasing top future trial lawyers. This tournament is one of the premier trial advocacy competitions in the country.” AAJ partners with the National Association of Legal Advocacy Educators to host the event. The winner this year was Baylor University School of Law.
“I hope I get the call again next year.” said Steven.
